SEO methodology

Our SEO Methodology: Nine Stages That Work as a Growth System

Our SEO methodology starts from a simple idea. A checklist helps you remember tasks; a strategy tells you which ones are worth doing. Technical health, search intent, content, authority and AI search affect each other, so we plan them together and every task has a reason behind it. This page walks through how we do SEO, stage by stage.

  • Technical + strategic
  • Search intent + commercial goals
  • Built for Google and AI search

The system

Our SEO process: nine stages, one loop

The stages are connected. The order gives us a framework, though we move back and forth between them as the evidence changes.

That’s why our SEO strategy process runs as a loop, and we go back to earlier stages whenever the data calls for it.

How the stages feed each other

  • A technical issue can change the content plan.
  • A new search trend can change which commercial pages come first.
  • A content gap can expose an internal linking problem.
  • Measurement can change what we work on next.

Not every business needs the same SEO work

For one site, technical architecture is the constraint. For another, the commercial pages are too thin to compete. For another, there is plenty of content but little authority behind it.

We don’t run the nine stages in the same order for everyone. We use them to find the real constraint, then decide what gets time first.

STAGE 01

Understand the Business

Before looking at keywords, we need to understand the business.

What does the company sell? Who buys it? Which markets matter? What makes the offer different? Which products or services carry the most commercial weight?

We also agree what a good SEO outcome looks like for you, so the work has a real target.

Output → Business priorities, ICP, commercial goals and conversion definitions

STAGE 02

Map How People Search

We study how people search for the problem, product or service.

That means search intent, competitors, the results pages themselves, topics, entities, commercial queries and how search behavior is shifting across Google and AI-powered search.

Output → Intent map, competitor analysis and SERP / AI-search review

STAGE 03

Build the Technical Foundation

Search engines need to be able to crawl, understand and index your important pages.

We fix the technical constraints that get in the way. Depending on the site, that can involve architecture, indexability, crawlability, internal linking, canonicalization, structured data or page experience. Not every site needs all of it, so the roadmap follows what is actually holding visibility back.

Output → Prioritized technical roadmap and implementation requirements

STAGE 04

Build Topical Authority

Ranking for one keyword is rarely the whole opportunity.

We cover the business’s core topics properly, and connect related pages through clear information architecture and internal linking, so people and search engines can see the depth behind your important pages. Coverage is planned page by page.

Output → Topic clusters, content briefs, internal linking plan and topical coverage roadmap

STAGE 05

Capture Commercial Intent

Traffic becomes more valuable when it reaches pages that match what people are ready to do.

We identify the searches closest to revenue and make sure the right page exists for each one. Sometimes that means improving an existing page. Sometimes it means building a new one.

Output → Commercial page priorities, page briefs and conversion improvements

STAGE 06

Build Authority & Trust

Strong content still needs credibility.

Depending on the market, that can mean digital PR, relevant links, expert contributions, first-hand expertise and brand mentions. The aim is authority that supports the business and the topics it needs to be known for.

Output → Digital PR, expert contributions, link opportunities and authority strategy

STAGE 07

Optimize for AI Search

Answers now appear in AI Overviews and chat tools as well as the regular results.

The same SEO work applies. On top of it we pay closer attention to entities, clear answers, source credibility, structured information and how your important pages are understood and referenced. No one can promise a citation in an AI answer, so we track visibility and improve the inputs we can influence.

Output → Entity review, content improvements and AI-search visibility tracking

STAGE 08

Measure Business Impact

Rankings are useful. They are also only one number.

We look at the measures that connect search visibility with business performance: qualified organic traffic, important queries, conversions, and revenue where it can be attributed. For most businesses the thinking looks something like this:

  1. Business outcome
  2. Conversions, qualified inquiries or revenue, where measurable
  3. Qualified organic traffic
  4. Search visibility
  5. Important queries
  6. Technical and content indicators

Treat this as a rough guide. What can be measured depends on the business and its tracking.

Output → Measurement framework, reporting and ongoing analysis

STAGE 09

Iterate

SEO does not end when the first roadmap is complete.

Search results, competitors and the business itself all change, and pages gain and lose visibility as they do.

We use what the data shows to decide what should be improved, expanded, consolidated, redirected or left alone.

Output → Updated priorities, experiments and the next SEO roadmap

Our view on AI

AI Speeds Up the Work. People Still Set the SEO Strategy.

We use AI tools every day for research, analysis, drafting and quality checks. They make parts of the SEO workflow faster.

They don't decide which market matters, which search demand is commercially valuable, what the website should prioritize, how topics should connect, what content deserves to exist, which technical problems to fix first, or whether a page actually helps the customer. Those decisions still need SEO strategy and human judgment.

  • AI-assisted research and clustering, human-validated
  • AI-assisted drafts, edited and fact-checked by an expert
  • Content reviewed by someone who understands the subject and the business

AI also changes how results are presented. You still need to know what people search for and why, which pages deserve to rank, how search engines read a site and what makes a source trustworthy. So the methodology stays SEO-first, and we adjust it as search keeps changing.

What we don’t do

Things you won’t find in our work

Some SEO tactics produce a quick bump that doesn’t last.

We’d rather build something that keeps working for the business, so you won’t find these in our plans.

  • Mass low-quality AI content. Pages produced in bulk with no expertise behind them help nobody.
  • Keyword stuffing. We write for readers and search intent, and use the keyword where it reads naturally.
  • Vanity metrics. Keyword counts and impressions are useful signals, but they don’t pay the bills.
  • Backlink quantity games. A big backlink count says little about authority if the links come from sites nobody reads.
  • Fake ranking promises. No one can guarantee a particular Google ranking.
  • Outdated SEO tactics. We don’t plan around manipulative or obsolete tactics just because they used to work.

We’ll review your site against the same principles and show you where the biggest search opportunities and constraints are.
